Y-Table, the first piece she designed in the new collection, Al Bitar reimagined her previous C-Table design to make it more spacious and sleek. This was followed by the Half Y-Table, which is, she says, essentially the Y table design “cut in half”. Much like Al Bitar’s Wisada design, the Half Y-Table also doubles as a comfortable seating option for those who like to sit closer to the ground, which she points out is a common preference in Arab households
Ayah Al Bitar is a Saudi Arabian Product and Furniture Designer who studied at Parsons The New School for Design in New York City. Through her work, she merges tradition and modernity creating products that are a combination of the East and the West. Having been brought up in Saudi, Ayah was inspired by Saudi topics of women’s rights; she wanted to create a model for how design can trigger social change. Her designs focus on breaking cultural boundaries with their thought-provoking concepts.
